How it’s calculated
For every station hub in Tokyo, Ikeruka works out the best train and subway route to your place, door to door: walking to the platform, average wait (half the interval between trains), the ride, transfers and the final walk. It then keeps a selection spread from nearest to farthest, favouring direct, frequent routes with little walking.
The score out of 100 reflects a “perceived” time: door-to-door time, plus 5 min per transfer, plus a penalty for long walks or infrequent lines.
Limitations
- No rush hour and no real-time data: average weekday timetables from 7 am to 8 pm. At rush hour trains run more often but are packed, and some expresses skip stations.
- No rents or housing criteria: commute time only. Check rents and the feel of the neighbourhood in person.
- Buses and the Shinkansen are not included. Times are rounded to the minute.
